A BIPOC group was convened, and through that process, several members committed to creating a movement that would propose a different model of building the capacity for BIPOC organizations in order to create a more inclusive economy in Forsyth County. A cohort of 15 organizations was formed to prepare for a strategic process of BIPOC organizations serving BIPOC organizations and preparing the next steps of philanthropy engagement in closing the funding disparity.

  1. “BIPOC-led organizations” is a term that refers to organizations or groups that are led by individuals who identify as BIPOC, which stands for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color. This acronym encompasses a diverse range of racial and ethnic backgrounds, and BIPOC-led organizations are typically formed to address issues, concerns, and goals that are specific to these communities.

In the context of building capacity for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) organizations, a “peer-led and collaborative process” refers to an approach where the capacity-building efforts are guided, facilitated, or driven by individuals or organizations from within the same or similar communities.

The role of philanthropists in this proposal is crucial to its success and the broader mission of creating a more equitable and inclusive model for capacity building within BIPOC-led organizations. Philanthropists are expected to engage in a process of listening and collaborating with BIPOC organizations to determine the next steps for their involvement.

There are plans to measure and track the impact of the new model over time. Evaluating the performance and impact of a new model is a crucial part of its development and deployment. Data collection and analysis will help inform strategic planning and assess the impact of organizations, ensuring that resources are allocated effectively and equitably.
